about

THE BRAND   &   THE DESIGNER

"A BRAND THAT GIVES MEN WHAT THEY WANT, BUT OFFERS THEM SOMETHING THEY DREAM OF."

THAT IS WAS THE FIRST THING JULIAN, SAID TO HIS FOUNDING TEAM BEFORE THE BRAND HAD EVEN BEGUN.  JULIAN HAD, UP TO THAT VERY MOMENT, SPENT HIS TIME DEVELOPING HIS OWN PERSONAL STYLE BUT, CONSISTENTLY FELT LET DOWN BY WHAT WAS IN THE MENSWEAR SECTIONS OF HIS FREQUENTED DEPARTMENT STORES AND BOUTIQUES.

FINDING MORE INSPIRATION IN THE GARMENTS IN THE WOMENSWEAR SECTION, JULIAN BEGAN TO WONDER WHY THE GAP BETWEEN WHAT WAS OFFERED IN THE WOMENSWEAR SECTIONS AND THE MENSWEAR SECTIONS WAS SO VAST. THERE WERE FEW TO NO OPTIONS FOR MENSWEAR THAT EXCITED THE SOON-TO-BE DESIGNER.

GIVING UP, HE DECIDED TO INSTEAD UTILIZE AN INDEPENDENT PATTERN MAKER IN THE CITY OF DONGDUCHEON, SOUTH KOREA WHO HAD PAST EXPERIENCE WITH WORKING WITH HIGH-END KOREAN DESIGNERS. CONSEQUENTLY, THIS WAS THE SAME PATTERN MAKER HIS MOTHER AND FATHER WOULD GO TO WHEN JULIAN WAS GROWING UP IN SEOUL, KOREA TO GET MATCHING FAMILY SUITS AND OUTFITS CUSTOM MADE.

JULIAN REALIZED THE MAGIC OF PATTERN MAKERS AND THEIR SKILL LEVEL. OVER THE FIRST YEAR OF THEIR WORKING RELATIONSHIP, JULIAN DESIGNED, ASSISTED IN PATTERN MAKING, AND FINALLY HAD ALL OF THE OPTIONS FOR MENSWEAR HE COULD IMAGINE, AND AT THE FRACTION OF THE PRICE HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO PAYING IN-STORE.

JULIAN BEGAN WITH A SKETCH, AND WITH THAT SIMPLE SKETCH, DREW A PATHWAY INTO HIS FUTURE CAREER AS A FASHION DESIGNER.

THIS BECAME THE FOUNDATION OF THE INNER WORKINGS OF WOOD HOUSE. OVER THEIR PERIOD OF WORKING TOGETHER, JULIAN AND THE PATTERN MAKER, MR. SOL, WOULD WORK ENDLESSLY TO DRAFT NEW STYLES, NEW PATTERNS, AND NEW IDEAS THAT ENDED UP FILLING THE LINE-UP OF JULIAN'S FIRST SHOW (FALL-WINTER 2015) AT SEOUL FASHION WEEK.

AFTER HIS FIRST SHOW, JULIAN FELT THE CALLING FOR A LARGER MARKET. HE SET HIS GAZE TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK, A CHALLENGE FOR AN EMERGING DESIGNER LIVING ABROAD. HIS DEDICATION, CAREFUL POSITIONING, BUT MOSTLY PRAYER LED HIM TO HIS FIRST SHOW AT PIER 59 FOR FALL-WINTER 2016. EVER SINCE THAT SHOW, JULIAN AND HIS HUSBAND HAVE BUILT THE HOUSE INTO SOMETHING THEY ARE PROUD TO CALL HOME.

WOOD HOUSE IS THE WAY MENSWEAR LOOKS WHEN THE RULES THAT RESTRICT IT TO THE SAME SILHOUETTES, DON'T EXIST.   THE BRAND HAS AND WILL CONTINUE TO OFFER FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT THROUGH THE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES IN HOW MEN CAN WEAR CLOTHING.
